What is Skriibl's method for delivering your perfectly subtitled video?
1. Initial Contact
Upon receipt of your request, we review the documents and all related materials. We then draft a proposal and contract which sets out the scope of the project including all tasks to be performed, deadlines, our rates, and a quote of the expected total cost to complete the project.
2. Agreement
Upon reaching an agreement and receipt of the signed contract and any required deposit payment, our linguists will begin your subtitling project.
3. Review
We carefully review the document and videos, taking special note of the style and target audience of your videos, as well as any topics we need to research, including industry knowledge and linguistic pitfalls. We may contact you for any necessary clarifications.
4. Prepare the Transcript
Next, we prepare the video transcript. If none is provided, we will watch the videos and create our own. If a transcript has been provided, we will review this document and prepare it for translation.
5. Translation
Our linguist is now prepared to work through the video transcript segment by segment, translating meaning for meaning in a CAT Tool, and generating the perfect subtitle translation based on research and understanding of your industry and specific needs.
This step is optional, and not all subtitling projects include translation, but this is a great way to bring your content to the world!
6. Proofreading
After the entire transcript has been translated, the linguist will review and proofread the entire transcript meticulously, looking for any grammar or punctuation errors, and correcting any awkwardly translated segments. The whole transcript should be fluid and meaningful to the target-language subtitle viewer.
7. Time Spotting
The finished transcript is then broken into appropriately sized segments and time coded to match the video scenes using subtitling software. Special attention is given to the layout of the text on screen, and the timing of dialogue and scene cuts. An .srt file is generated.
8. Payment & Delivery
Now that the subtitles are finished, you will be asked to make your final payment, and the .srt file will be delivered.
9. Review
We now give you the opportunity to review the subtitles and make any clarifications or corrections immediately after delivery.
Final corrections will be made, and the subtitling process is complete.
Satisfaction Guaranteed
We want you to be completely satisfied with our work, so we offer a later round of revisions at your request.
If anything is not just how you would like, please let us know so that we can make it better.
What are CAT Tools?
CAT tools, Computer Assisted Translation Tools, break the document up into short, workable segments and save our work so that we can easily cross-reference previous segments and keep our translations consistent across the document and all your various projects.
If you have translation memories from previous translations, you may supply us with that information. This will also help to keep your terminology and branding consistent.
What is subtitling software?
Subtitling tools, like SubtitleEdit, are computer software used for time coding subtitles.
We will open your video using a software program, which enables us to scrub back and forth in the video, to break the transcript text up into chunks of speech, to format the on-screen layout of the captions, and to time code how long each caption shall be displayed on screen. Then the .srt file is generated when this information is saved, and can be used to embed the subtitles in your video.
